
The Haven creates a space where neurodivergent girls & non-binary young people aged 12-17 can discover their authentic selves, connect with kindred spirits, learn about emotional and co-regulation and receive an education that honours their natural ways of thinking, learning, and being. We offer both GCSEs & project-based learning, with an emphasis on wellbeing and additional strands on nurturing a positive neurodivergent identity, entrepreneurship, employability & preparing for adulthood.

1. We have a Safer Recruitment Policy which outlines our commitment to safeguarding and the specific procedures followed.
We have Clear Job Descriptions and Person Specifications which accurately reflect the responsibilities and required skills for the role.
We prepare an Application Pack which includes information about the role, the organisation, and safeguarding policies, as well as the application form itself.
We ensure the job advertisement includes all necessary information about the role and the organisation’s commitment to safeguarding.
2. Application and Shortlisting:
We scrutinise Applications, paying close attention to any gaps in employment or inconsistencies.
We investigate any unexplained gaps in an applicant’s work history.
We ensure all required information is provided on the application form, including consent for background checks.
We use pre-defined criteria to select the most suitable candidates for interview.
3. Interviewing:
We prepare Standardised Interview Questions, including safeguarding ones, for all candidates and provide these in advance.
We verify Identity, Qualifications, and Experience.
We conduct Thorough Interviews with an appropriate panel.
We record all interview details, including responses to safeguarding questions.
We obtain at least two written references, including one from the applicant’s most recent employer.
4. Decision Making and Checks:
We conduct appropriate criminal record checks (e.g., DBS checks) for eligible roles.
We check the appropriate barred lists to ensure the candidate is not prohibited from working with vulnerable groups.
We ensure the candidate has the right to work in the UK.
We evaluate all information gathered throughout the recruitment process, including references and background checks.
We keep a record of all decisions made during the recruitment process.
5. Onboarding and Ongoing Monitoring:
We provide a thorough induction process that includes safeguarding training and policies.
We utilise a probationary period to further assess the candidate’s suitability.
We provide appropriate supervision and support, particularly in the early stages of employment.
We monitor staff performance and behavior to ensure ongoing suitability.
